Fairfax Fire & Rescue
Fairfax, VA
SITUATION:
The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department was established in 1949. It is a combination career and volunteer organization providing fire suppression, emergency medical, technical rescue, fire prevention and educational services to more than one million citizens. Fairfax County encompasses 395 square miles of urban and suburban development, and is located 10 miles west of Washington, D.C. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue maintains 41 fire and rescue stations, and two training facilities. Heartline’s key account manager, Doug Meadows, has been working with Fairfax Fire and Rescue on its fitness center requirements for some nine years now, so when the county had a requirement to renovate its Chantilly training center they called Doug for some consulting help.
SOLUTION:
Fortunately, this particular facility had a tremendous existing fitness center space--it was simply a function of modernizing the equipment they had, and filling some strength gaps. Consequently, Heartline and Fairfax Fire agreed on installing a Star Trac 9-station jungle system that boasted a wide variety of exercises--lat pulldowns, low rows, triceps push downs, mid rows, chin-dip assists, and an assortment of adjustable hi-lo pulley system exercises. In addition, new free weight equipment was provided, including a full complement of Troy pro style rubber dumbbells, dumbbell rack, and Troy rubber encased Olympic grip plates. Combining this new array of strength equipment with existing Star Trac treadmills, ellipticals, and spinner bikes, provides Fairfax County’s career and volunteer fireman and staff personnel a comprehensive training platform to work from.
