EDUCATION
Fox Chapel High School
Pittsburgh, PA
SITUATION:
Located just outside of the heart of Pittsburgh, Fox Chapel High School’s athletic and physical education departments came to Heartline looking for a solution to their existing weight room. With no new space available, the challenge involved creating a design that would train, at least another 12-15 student/athletes per class and/or training session. .
SOLUTION:
Fox Chapel’s weight room consisted of 1,200 square feet, and ten pieces of selectorized strength, an old free weight dumbbell area, and three single purpose racks. The only viable solution to increasing the facility by 12 to 15 student/athletes would be to create a new layout utilizing Heartline’s Dual CoreRack ™ training systems. Each Dual CoreRack ™ system can accommodate up to eight student/athletes at one time, enabling each student/athlete to perform all of their core lifts in one rack (benching, squatting, deadlifting, and power cleaning). By installing three Dual CoreRacks ™, Fox Chapel is now able to train 24 student/athletes in 360 square feet, effectively doubling the previous capacity. Heartline also installed three integrated platform systems with bumper storage and a TorsoBuster ™ to the backside of each Dual CoreRack ™. The result was not only increasing the flexibility of the room, but added a new array of ground based exercises. The existing circuit equipment was arranged along the perimeter of the facility to increase safety and workout flow. The final modernization involved revamping the free weight area with thirty-six pairs of Ivanko urethane dumbbells complete with Fox Chapel logos. The addition of logos to the dumbbells, upholstery, and Olympic platforms has created a sense of school pride and spirit among the students. At the end of the day, Fox Chapel was able to increase their training capacity by 45% by re-designing the facility, and adding three new Heartline multi-functional rack systems.
