American Institute of Research
Washington, DC
SITUATION:
The American Institute for Research (AIR) is one of the largest behavioral and social science research organizations in the world. Founded in 1946 as a nonprofit organization, AIR is a carefully designed institution motivated by the desire to enhance the human experience. AIR is committed to contributing to the science of human behavior and the development of man’s capacities and potential. AIR’s work spans a wide range of substantive areas: education, student assessment, international education, individual and organizational performance, health research and communication, human development, usability design and testing, employment equity, and statistical and research methods. Fortunately, when it came time for AIR to implement its own corporate wellness center the firm reached out to Heartline Fitness.
SOLUTION:
The challenged involved creating a design from 900 square feet of floor space to serve a potential employee population of 1,000 employees. Heartline chose to focus the majority of its layout on cardiovascular conditioning equipment, with a blend of complementary Paramount dual station strength machines, and a functional trainer. Heartline ultimately ended up installing a variety of Star Trac E-Series treadmills and ellipticals, and Star Trac recumbent bikes. All cardio equipment came with Star Trac’s new 15” personal screen entertainment systems with IPOD ® integration. Given the potential traffic of the facility, Heartline bundled a one-year quarterly preventive maintenance contract into the package.
